Are you ready to end #DeathByPowerpoint?

…but you aren’t sure where to start?

Here’s a FREE guided intro to help you create visually-engaging, accessible, professional presentations.

There’s a ton of information out there about creating better presentations… but it’s hard to find stuff that wasn’t written by bots 🤖

Or, when you finally find stuff made by a real person…there’s an overwhelming amount of info to sort through 🫠

A lot of it is vague and inactionable.

Like, what does “use your voice effectively” even mean lol?

Or, it’s flat out wrong.

Seriously, the 10-20-30 rule is the WORST advice you can follow. 🤡 It will literally cause you to create terrible presentations.

There’s just…a lot of it.

Like, I have over 50 videos on my YouTube channel, and around 80-100 blogs by now?

…And it’s not clear what’s still relevant or what order to go in.

So you’ll probably run into decision fatigue and give up.

How about a guided training series?

Which app should you use?

Which automations should you use?

What your audience wants from a presentation.

What abilities you need to create & give powerful talks.

…So I can answer these key questions burning a hole in your head.

  • What’s better than PowerPoint?

  • What’s the best slide app to use if I want to create beautiful slides?

  • How do I know which app is best for my use case?

  • It takes me too long to create slides! How do I speed this up?!

  • Is generative AI a fad or should I spend some time learning it ASAP?

  • + MYTH BUSTING: Why you don’t actually need more time to create better slides.

  • How do I create presentations that get people to listen, even if they have the attention span of a shrimp? 🍤

  • …But is it a professional?

  • …But is it accessible?

  • …does it even matter? Will they care? Isn’t this just a soft skill anyway?

  • Ok, but like…what if I hate public speaking?

  • I like visual slides, but what if I forget what I want to say?

  • How can I do this if I’m not a visual thinker or have any eye for design?

  • I’m too slow at design and nothing I do makes me go faster.

  • I think I’m too much of an introvert to ever come across as a natural speaker.

By the time you finish this FREE training series you’re going be so much more confident that you’re taking the right steps.

Here’s what you get when you sign up

The training series is delivered as an email course. The lessons are delivered right to your inbox.

That means you don’t have to worry about remembering a new login/password just to access the material. 😮‍💨 🙌

Emails are sent every 2-5 days to give you time to review & digest before the next one arrives.

Lessons typically begin with a recommended video 🎥. (Usually, it’s from my YouTube channel)

There is also a bonus video from my online course 🎁 🙌 No login/signup will be required to watch it.

Several lessons have downloadable PDFs.

They were either created just for this free email series & can’t be found elsewhere.

Or, they’re the downloadables mentioned in the YouTube video (that would otherwise require an email to get anyway).

There is also a written section that includes clearly-defined takeaways.

Sometimes it’ll be more detail or updated info that relates to the video. Other times, it’ll be a bonus lesson that isn’t found anywhere else on my blog or channel.

🎙️ COMING SOON: For long-ish lessons, I’ll be recording them and sharing as podcast-style episodes!

Lessons end with links to additional resources, just in case you want to take an even deeper dive.

Who is this for?

TLDR: I help professionals who want to create presentations that make a lasting impact.

Let’s break that down and get specific.

So, presentation could be things like:

  • Keynotes

  • Any type of invited talk, speech, seminar, etc

  • Webinars

  • Videos (if the visuals for the video are presentation slides; eg online course)

  • Class lectures

  • Workshops

  • Promotional book talks

  • Masters/Dissertation defenses

  • Job talks, teaching demos, chalk talks

  • Conference talks

  • Presentations to clients, stakeholders, etc

  • And so on…

Basically, I help with any type of activity where you have presentation slides, and narrate them in some way (synch or asynch) to people.

And, professionals include people like:

  • Academics, researchers, scientists (people who teach or share data).

  • People in the non-profit sector, including coalitions and TTA centers (you do all kinds of different presentations, from training volunteers to fundraising to reporting your impact)

  • Evaluators or consultants who need to present proposals, updates, or final results to their clients or stakeholders.

  • People in the medical or legal fields who also teach or present in some way (e.g., nurse educators, doctors or attorneys who present at conferences).

  • People in the corporate or for-profit sector who need to present to colleagues, supervisors, and clients.

It’s a myth that every single aspect of a presentation needs to have a different strategy for every single professional title & every single type of audience.

Yes, tailoring is important. But my approach to professional development is that I teach people the fundamentals about design & human psychology.

I have a PhD in psychology, btw.

So, as you can imagine, I spent decades of my life suffering through #DeathByPowerpoint class lectures, workshops, and conference presentations.

It made learning material I cared about difficult (or impossible), and I was obviously not the only one struggling.

Yet, professor after professor…researcher after researcher…continued to recycle the same boring templates with the same boring speaking approach.

But even after finally being able to leave academia…there I was…still having to sit through more #DeathByPowerpoint!

I was so frustrated! Why was everyone, everywhere, forever giving such inaccessible, mindnumbing, time-wasting presentations?

How is it possible that the problem is so widespread that you see it in academia, the nonprofit sector, the private sector, the public sector, the medical field, and even from service providers?!

Meanwhile…starting as an undergrad (early 2000s just FYI), I received tons of compliments from students and professors about my class talks...and it all snowballed from there.

How is it that I was able to figure out how to do this as a young adult, when it’s such a widespread problem?

🙅‍♀️ It’s NOT because I was a natural speaker or an extrovert (I’m neither).

It’s because:

  • I had intense fear of public speaking, so I over-prepared.

  • I always had a lot of other creative interests and hobbies.

  • I got a PhD in psychology specifically because I wanted to understand human attitudes & behaviors.

  • I applied an interdisciplinary approach using strategies I picked up from books, comics, video games, and movies.

  • I experimented A LOT.

That’s how I was able to figure out that you just need to prioritize few universal aspects of what makes a presentation engaging to anyone. And that’s what I’ll be sharing with you in this email series.

I will share with you the primary problem you need to fix, and the one primary solution. There is one small catch, though:

I’m a perfect fit for professionals who want to do more than just check a box.

I wouldn’t recommend my resources if you only need to make presentations to check a box. AKA finish a presentation that's required for work, that you don’t really care about, and move on.

I’m here for people who have a burning need inside of them to be heard & understood. To see an audience that is fully captivated and hanging on their every word.

I’m here for people who want to finish a presentation and hear the magic words: “That is the BEST presentation I’ve ever seen!”

It doesn't matter who your audience is or what your profession is.

In the past, I specialized in helping academics, scientists, and evaluators with their public speaking skills (because I have a PhD in psychology & come from that world)...

...but I've now realized that these strategies apply broadly, across professions.
